I drove through the drive-thru today and noticed on the sign the different new third pound Angus burgers that McDonald’s is serving.  I decided to try one since they had looked pretty good on commercials and had been curious.  The drive-thru experience was predictably top-notch here.  They usually get your order pretty quickly as well as take your money and serve you your meal.  I ate the fries on the way home, which were really good and hot.  Then, when I got home, I had the Angus burger.  The deluxe has mayo, mustard, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles and cheese.  I must say that I was disappointed in the taste of this burger.  It just didn’t have the zing-factor that I like in a burger.  There was nothing special about it.  While it wasn’t terrible, I felt like I just ate it because it was there.  It was obvious that this burger contained more meat than the patties that are on a Big Mac or McDonald’s cheeseburger.  It was definitely a more significant type burger that you think of when you think of a ‘burger’.  However, I can think of a lot of other places that I would rather get a substantial burger from if I was in a mood for that type of burger.  As for a McDonald’s meal, I’ll stick with the cheeseburger or Big Mac.

McDonald’s Review 4/9 – Fishers

I was planning on getting cheeseburgers when I went to McDonald’s today, but when I arrived I noticed that the sign said, “McRib is Back!”.  I decided to have that, and it was right on par with its normal quality.  The fries were good.  I was pleasantly surprised when I was handed a large soft drink when I had purchased the combo meal.  Typically when I order a combo meal from here, they have always came with the medium soft drink, even when they have the offer going on where the drinks (whether small, medium, or large) are all $1.  The prices have went up recently at this McDonald’s, so I’m not sure if they just built a large drink into the combo prices or if it was just a mistake that I received the large drink.

Big Mac from Today

Big Mac from Today

I went to this McDonald’s at lunch time and, as predicted, the line was really long.  So, I went inside to order, and even though there were no other customers in line, the turn-around from going in the building to leaving the building with my meal was a fairly long time.

My Big Mac was pretty good.  The fries needed more salt.  Again, they were quite bland.

I’m not sure when McDonald’s raised their prices around here, but it definitely happened at some point.  Fortunately, this was a very good Big Mac meal today.  The sandwich was excellent with the perfect amount of special sauce, and the french fries were near perfect with being warm and having just the right amount of salt.

Today I had intentions of going through the McDonald’s drive-thru line.  Once I arrived at this McDonald’s and saw the drive-thru line wrapped around the building, I knew that would not be happening.  This McDonald’s is typically slow when I come here, so with a line like that, you might as well forget a quick stop.  I decided to go ahead inside to get my order since the line was not backed up in there.  After waiting several minutes, with no one in front of me, someone eventually paid attention to me and took my order.  While waiting several more minutes before I got my food, a lady who had went through the drive-thru came in and was standing at the counter trying to get someone’s attention.  She was waiting a minute or two before anyone paid her any attention.  Apparently they had failed to put fries in her bag with the rest of her food.

I finally got my food and went on my way.  The Big Mac was typical, but the fries were awful.  They were so bland, with barely any salt on them.  They tasted just like potatoes, similar to the inside part of an Ore-Ida crinkle cut french fry that you cook yourself in the oven.  I usually really enjoy McDonald’s french fries too, even if I do take them to-go and don’t eat them when they are still hot.

This McDonald’s seems to have gone down hill since they have opened.  I would like to know if they have changed ownership or management.  I remember when they first opened, they were quite friendly and efficient.

Speaking of Ore-Ida french fries, who would have thought that the Ore-Ida website has an area with Ore-Ida recipes?!?  Use those fries in your freezer to whip up something good!

Sausage Egg and Cheese McMuffin with Hashbrown

Sausage Egg and Cheese McMuffin with Hashbrown

Rarely do I get up and about early enough to make it to McDonald’s on a weekend for breakfast.  However, this day, with the help of Daylight Savings Time and having to set the clocks backwards, McDonald’s was on the menu for breakfast this morning!  The Sausage Egg & Cheese McMuffin was just as good as I remembered it.  It’s one of those comfort foods that is not the most healthy things, but it sure does taste good!  The hashbrown was equally good with being warm and perfectly crispy on the outside.

Unfortunately, the cashier was not the most pleasant.  Perhaps they don’t like to get out that early on a weekend either.

Today’s Meal: Would have been a Sausage Egg and Cheese McMuffin, Hash Brown, and Soft Drink

I did come to this McDonald’s first in order to get my breakfast.  However, the lines inside were very long as was the drive-thru line.  Whenever I come to this McDonald’s, I typically have to wait awhile to get my food.  Therefore, with the lines like this, I decided to go to another McDonald’s.  I went to the one on 82nd and Fall Creek Road in Indianapolis, and the next review will detail that.

McDonald’s – Fishers

Today’s Meal: Premium Crispy Chicken Club Sandwich, Fries, Soft Drink

First of all, let me start off by saying how disappointed I am with this McDonald’s and their active participation in the Monopoly program that is suppose to be going on until November 2 or 3, 2008.  The game boards as well as their website state which menu items the game pieces are suppose to be attached to.  One of those items is the medium soft drinks.  I purchased a medium soft drink a couple weeks ago, and it did not have the Monopoly pieces.  I asked the lady giving me the cups if they were suppose to come on those, and without saying a word, she took the medium cup that I had and put down a medium cup on the counter with the game pieces attached.  She totally acted like I was burdening her by asking.  My thought is, if there is a special promotion going on, you should not have to ask to participate and get your peel off game pieces.  What are they trying to do, hold back as many of the product items with the game pieces so there will be extras when the promotion is over and keep them or give them away to family and friends (being there are several game pieces with free menu items on them, like free McFlurry’s or fries).  By no means am I suggesting that a majority of the employees are hoarding the promotional packages, but please people, if it’s the Monopoly time of the year, give the promotional materials out!  You don’t know which customers are participating in the game or not.  Anyways, my rant is brought on today as I was given a Chicken Select product without the game pieces again…which it was suppose to include.  This same thing happened on drink cups on this McDonald’s another time as well as another McDonald’s.  (Are you suppose to request the promotional materials???) Yes, not a big deal in the scheme of things, but it is something that irks me anyways.

To start off my meal today, I ordered a Premium Crispy Chicken Classic Sandwich.  I ended up getting a Premium Crispy Chicken Club Sandwich.  I think the only difference is that the Club has bacon added, so I just took that off (being I don’t like bacon on my sandwiches).  The sandwich was sticking to the box though, and when I lifted it up, about 1/4 of the bottom bun was stuck to the box.  Besides that, it was a good sandwich.  They put quite a bit of mayo on the sandwich, which I do like.  The fries were nice and warm.  Perhaps I could have been a millionaire with the Monopoly pieces that I did not get on my Premium Chicken sandwich!  Okay, probably not!

Today’s Meal: Cheeseburger, Fries, Diet Coke, Iced Mocha
Cost: Under $6.00

Today’s lunch was a cheeseburger and fries.  The one thing that bothered me about the cheeseburger was that the wrapper had something sticky on the outside.  It was like some of their syrup from breakfast had spilled on it or something.  Fortunately, it did not leak through to the sandwich.  The sandwich was good, as were the fries.  The fries came out warm and with the perfect amount of salt.  The Diet Coke was also very good…one of my favorite places to get a fountain Diet Coke.

I decided to give the new Iced Mocha a try today.  The sign said that today was their first day debuting the new McCafe Coffees.  I ordered a Nonfat Iced Mocha.  I was hoping that I would get a drink that had the ice crushed up and blended in with the drink, similar to my favorite, the Starbuck’s Mocha Frappuccino.  However, it was not like that.  It was a drink that had the coffee and syrup mixed together and then ice cubes.  Therefore, to me, it tasted quite syrupy.  Although it looked pretty, with the whipped cream and syrup laced on top, I would not get this drink again.  I will give the regular McCafe Mocha (a warm drink without the ice) a try in the future though.
