McDonald’s Review 8/12 – Fishers

Cost: $6.30

I drove through the drive-thru today and noticed on the sign the different new third pound Angus burgers that McDonald’s is serving.  I decided to try one since they had looked pretty good on commercials and had been curious.  The drive-thru experience was predictably top-notch here.  They usually get your order pretty quickly as well as take your money and serve you your meal.  I ate the fries on the way home, which were really good and hot.  Then, when I got home, I had the Angus burger.  The deluxe has mayo, mustard, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles and cheese.  I must say that I was disappointed in the taste of this burger.  It just didn’t have the zing-factor that I like in a burger.  There was nothing special about it.  While it wasn’t terrible, I felt like I just ate it because it was there.  It was obvious that this burger contained more meat than the patties that are on a Big Mac or McDonald’s cheeseburger.  It was definitely a more significant type burger that you think of when you think of a ‘burger’.  However, I can think of a lot of other places that I would rather get a substantial burger from if I was in a mood for that type of burger.  As for a McDonald’s meal, I’ll stick with the cheeseburger or Big Mac.

McAlister’s Deli Review 4/22 – Fishers

April 23, 2009

Restaurant: McAlister’s Deli
Location: Fishers, IN
Address: 8355 East 116th Street, Suite 101  Fishers, IN 46038
Menu: McAlister’s Menu
Type: Deli
Loyalty Program: None Known
Today’s Meal: Taco Salad, Soft Drink
Cost: Less than $10

They went and changed McAlister’s Deli on me!  It all started when I went in, and the menu board had changed.  It’s more representative now of a bistro or such, than a traditional deli with the vivid colors and the pictures that are now up there.  My typical go-to meal, Taco Salad, was still there, but I also noticed a Chipotle salad that I don’t remember seeing in the past that also sounded pretty good.  The second thing I noticed was that the napkins were no longer readily available on the counter.  They used to have those and straws, as well as mints, out in between the seating area and the cash registers.  Now, the straws are up at the cash registers, and I had to ask for napkins at the counter.  (I’m assuming they typically come with your meal now.)  I didn’t notice any mints laying out this time, and they didn’t come with my meal like they typically do either.  We had to wait a little longer than usual for our meals to come out.  I’m assuming there was some confusion in the kitchen because I saw two tables who had the wrong things brought out to them.  When the person I was dining with and I got our meals, they switched whose was whose (we each had order numbers and the waiter clearly said whose was whose), and we didn’t realize it until we had already started eating (both had taco salads, just with little differences between each).  Then we realized the mistake after I had already mixed the sour cream into my salad, and doesn’t it figure, the person I was dining with does not like sour cream.  They had asked for no sour cream, but both of ours came with it anyways.  (If theirs would have came without the sour cream as requested, then we would have easily been able to tell whose was whose.)  So, after trying to get the sour cream portion out of mine as much as possible, we just switched and ate, so as not to have to wait any longer.  The one thing that they changed about the taco salad is that it no longer comes with black olives.  I say, bring back the black olives!  They also now serve the salads in bright colored bowls.  They used to serve in the black plastic saucer-type dishes with a piece of paper on the top that had the McAlister’s Deli logo written all over.  To me, that had more of a deli type look and feel to it.  The new dishes and menu board do update the place a bit.  It would be nice to see the decor updated along with these new changes.  We were given plenty of refills on our drinks during our meal.  There was a picture of the Colossial Carrot Cake, and it looked quite good.

McDonald’s Review 4/9 – Fishers

April 9, 2009

Menu: McDonald’s Menu
Type: Fast Food American

Today’s Meal: McRib, Fries, Soft Drink
Cost: $4.32

I was planning on getting cheeseburgers when I went to McDonald’s today, but when I arrived I noticed that the sign said, “McRib is Back!”.  I decided to have that, and it was right on par with its normal quality.  The fries were good.  I was pleasantly surprised when I was handed a large soft drink when I had purchased the combo meal.  Typically when I order a combo meal from here, they have always came with the medium soft drink, even when they have the offer going on where the drinks (whether small, medium, or large) are all $1.  The prices have went up recently at this McDonald’s, so I’m not sure if they just built a large drink into the combo prices or if it was just a mistake that I received the large drink.

Wendy’s Review 3/29 – Fishers

March 31, 2009

Restaurant: Wendy’s
Location: Fishers, IN
Address: 8921 East 116th Street   Fishers, IN 46038
Menu: Wendy’s Menu
Type: Fast Food American
Loyalty Program: None Known
Today’s Meal: Large Chili
Cost: About $2

When I drove up, the line for the drive-thru was really long so I decided to go in.  There was only one cash register lane open (perhaps all there ever is?) once I got in there, and there was a very long line.  It took a long time, probably about 10 minutes (possibly more), for me to get up to the counter to order.  Once I did order, my chili was handed to me in about 30 seconds.  Despite the ridiculous wait, the chili was very good and warm.  They also gave me plenty of crackers to enjoy with the chili.

Qdoba Review 3/28 – Fishers

March 31, 2009

Restaurant: Qdoba

Menu – Qdoba Menu
Today’s Meal – Vegetarian Nachos, Soft Drink
Cost – Around $8
Type – Fast Mexican Food
Loyalty Program – Qdoba Card

It’s been a while since I’ve been to this Qdoba, but if I were looking for quality service and nachos, I would definitely come and visit this one again.  Although I did have to wait about 30 seconds for someone to start making my nachos (while I was the only one in line and it seemed like there were several workers just staring at me), I was greeted promptly.  The small wait was more than worth it as they piled on all of the ingredients without being stingy.  Everyone was quite friendly, professional, and seemed like they were happy to be there.  I was even helped to my seat with all the food (without even asking), as I had ordered for others dining with me as well.  Truly, a very enjoyable dining experience.

Quiznos Review- Fishers

December 28, 2008

Restaurant: Quiznos
Location: Fishers, IN
Address: 11386 Olio Rd  Fishers Indiana 46038
Menu: Quiznos Menu
Today’s Meal: Regular Turkey Ranch & Swiss Sub Sandwich
Cost: Around $6
Type: Sub Shop
Loyalty Program: None Known

This Quiznos is a very small sub shop with the actual sandwich preparation area taking up much of the space.  The dining area is very small; however, I have never been when it has been busy here, so the seating is just fine.  It is a similar setup to Subway, however the sandwiches have more of a standard of what they are suppose to include instead of just going down the aisle and listing each thing you want added like you do at Subway.  You can still request things added or excluded though.

I typically enjoy the Turkey Ranch & Swiss Sub Sandwich at Quiznos.  They toast their subs here, so the cheese is lightly melted and the bread has a nice crispy texture.  The ranch adds a nice zesty taste while the lettuce, tomato, and red onion round the turkey sandwich off nicely.  I enjoyed the sandwich today as it was made well.

The staff here do wear gloves while they are preparing the sandwiches which is very nice to see.  However, it would have been great to have the staff also wear hair nets or caps or something.  One person who was involved in making sandwiches had their hair dangling and swooshing around above the food.  Hair nets or caps would definitely add a welcome element of sanitary precaution.

Qdoba Review 12/20 – Fishers

December 20, 2008

Restaurant: Qdoba
Location – Fishers, IN

Menu – Qdoba Menu
Today’s Meal – Ground Beef Nachos, Soft Drink
Cost – Around $8
Type – Fast Mexican Food
Loyalty Program – Qdoba Card

Typically I get the vegetarian nachos at Qdoba, but today I decided to branch out and give the ground beef nachos a whirl.  I typically like ground beef on tacos and things, and I really did enjoy this variation on the Qdoba nachos.  I always get rice on my vegetarian nachos, and I really like that, so I thought I would add rice to this as well.  They did charge me extra for getting the rice.  Apparently you can substitute the beans that come on the ground beef nachos for rice, but it does cost extra for getting both.  Another thing to note is that the nachos were quite a bit greasier with the ground beef .  When I get the vegetarian nachos, I do not notice any extra grease; however with the ground beef, there were several areas where the queso cheese had grease dripped on it from the beef.

Taco Bell Review – Fishers

December 6, 2008

Restaurant: Taco Bell
Location: Fishers, IN
Address: 7680 E. 96th St. Fishers, IN 46038
Menu: Taco Bell Menu (must click on ‘Our Food’ at the top then ‘Menu’)
Today’s Meal: Fully Loaded Nachos, Taco
Cost: Less than $5
Type: Mexican Fast Food
Loyalty Program: None Known

Today I decided to give the fairly new, Fully Loaded Nachos, a try.  They tasted very similar to the Nacho Supreme that Taco Bell has except for adding some pico-type salsa and guacamole.  Now I must be very spoiled with Qdoba’s salsa because I did not like their version any where close to Qdoba’s mild salsa.  They were truly ‘fully loaded’ though as I had more toppings than I did chips.  This is where the taco shell comes into play.  You are suppose to use that to scoop up the rest of the toppings.  If I were going back to Taco Bell, I would stick to the Nacho Supreme, as I like their nachos better without their salsa.  The taco was a typical Taco Bell taco.

Starbucks Review – Fishers

December 4, 2008

Restaurant: Starbucks
Location: Fishers, IN
Address: (I-69 & 116th) 9001 E. 116th St.  Fishers, Indiana 46038
Menu: Starbucks Beverages
Today’s Beverage: Peppermint Hot Chocolate (Seasonal)
Cost: Around $3
Type: Coffee Shop
Loyalty Program: Starbucks Card

The Starbucks Peppermint Hot Chocolate was very good.  The only drawback was I should have swished it around or stirred it before I got to 1/4 left of the drink.  It ended up being quite powdery tasting at the end.  It was a nice treat for around the holidays though!

McDonald’s Review – Fishers

I’m not sure when McDonald’s raised their prices around here, but it definitely happened at some point.  Fortunately, this was a very good Big Mac meal today.  The sandwich was excellent with the perfect amount of special sauce, and the french fries were near perfect with being warm and having just the right amount of salt.
