First of all, let me start off by saying how disappointed I am with this McDonald’s and their active participation in the Monopoly program that is suppose to be going on until November 2 or 3, 2008.  The game boards as well as their website state which menu items the game pieces are suppose to be attached to.  One of those items is the medium soft drinks.  I purchased a medium soft drink a couple weeks ago, and it did not have the Monopoly pieces.  I asked the lady giving me the cups if they were suppose to come on those, and without saying a word, she took the medium cup that I had and put down a medium cup on the counter with the game pieces attached.  She totally acted like I was burdening her by asking.  My thought is, if there is a special promotion going on, you should not have to ask to participate and get your peel off game pieces.  What are they trying to do, hold back as many of the product items with the game pieces so there will be extras when the promotion is over and keep them or give them away to family and friends (being there are several game pieces with free menu items on them, like free McFlurry’s or fries).  By no means am I suggesting that a majority of the employees are hoarding the promotional packages, but please people, if it’s the Monopoly time of the year, give the promotional materials out!  You don’t know which customers are participating in the game or not.  Anyways, my rant is brought on today as I was given a Chicken Select product without the game pieces again…which it was suppose to include.  This same thing happened on drink cups on this McDonald’s another time as well as another McDonald’s.  (Are you suppose to request the promotional materials???) Yes, not a big deal in the scheme of things, but it is something that irks me anyways.

To start off my meal today, I ordered a Premium Crispy Chicken Classic Sandwich.  I ended up getting a Premium Crispy Chicken Club Sandwich.  I think the only difference is that the Club has bacon added, so I just took that off (being I don’t like bacon on my sandwiches).  The sandwich was sticking to the box though, and when I lifted it up, about 1/4 of the bottom bun was stuck to the box.  Besides that, it was a good sandwich.  They put quite a bit of mayo on the sandwich, which I do like.  The fries were nice and warm.  Perhaps I could have been a millionaire with the Monopoly pieces that I did not get on my Premium Chicken sandwich!  Okay, probably not!

Today’s Meal – Queso Burrito with Chicken

One word can best describe this burrito…huge!  They literally stuff this burrito with yummy toppings including rice, beans, shredded cheese, sour cream, steak or chicken, and lettuce.  The thing that I really think makes this burrito extra delicious is the queso cheese.  It’s one of those things that you have a hard time finishing, but it was just so good that I found myself eating it until it was gone!

McAlister’s Deli – Fishers

October 28, 2008

Restaurant: McAlister’s Deli
Location: Fishers, IN
Address: 8355 East 116th Street, Suite 101  Fishers, IN 46038
Menu: McAlister’s Menu
Type: Deli
Loyalty Program: None Known
Today’s Meal: Taco Salad, Soft Drink
Cost: Less than $10

Today I dined at McAlister’s Deli.  McAlister’s Deli is known for the really large potatoes available with a variety of different toppings as well as their sweet tea.  Nearly everyone I have dined with here will attest to the goodness of the sweet tea.  (I do not like tea, so I cannot offer up my opinion.)

It’s one of my favorite places to get a taco salad.  Mind you, it’s not a traditional taco salad with the shell shaped like a bowl or anything, and nothing about it really tastes Mexican.  It has a bed of lettuce with some tortilla chips crushed below, and then they use their chili (which you can also get vegetarian chili to make this taco salad entirely vegetarian), cheese, tomatoes, sour cream, and black olives on the top.  It also comes with Jalapenos, but I leave those off.  On the side is extra tortilla chips as well as a little bit of salsa.  Quite yummy!

In the past, the staff at McAlister’s has been very on top of drink refills.  You see, you go to the counter to order (they give you your drink while you’re up there), and then you go find a seat and put the order number they give you on the table.  They bring you your meal when it is prepared, and then typically they come around from time-to-time to see if you would like more to drink (they also have you take your lid and straw before they take your cup, which I REALLY like, more sanitary).  This time they never came around once to see if I would like more to drink.  Hopefully next time I go there they are more on-top of the drink refills!

Today’s Meal: Combination Plate with Chili Cheese Etouffee with Crawfish & the Red Beans and Rice with Sausage & 2 slices buttered bread
Cost: Less than $7

The dining area at Yats is quite small and filled with a diverse group of people.  My favorite dish from here is typically the Chili Cheese Etouffee with Crawfish.  It was once again, very good today.  It starts with a layer of white rice, and then the sauce is added.  It’s a thicker, chili-cheese sauce with bits of Crawfish added in.  It is not too spicy at all, as I am one that tends to like things on the less spicy side.  I decided to try the Red Beans and Rice with sausage today as well.  It was good, but not quite as unique as the Etouffee.  The bites with the sausage were definitely the best, although the taste made me think of beenie-weenies for some reason.  This was another dish that wasn’t too spicy.  I didn’t think the bread was quite as good as normal today.  Normally, it’s a very greasy-buttery topping that is slathered on the top of the bread.  It’s almost like an oil that is still glistening on the top when it is served.  (Yes, it does seem unhealthy, but it is oh-so-good!)  Today, it just seemed like a pat of butter had been added to the top of the slice prior to toasting it.  However, it was good to layer some of that Etouffee on top of and have a bite!

Paradise Bakery – Noblesville

October 25, 2008

Restaurant: Paradise Bakery
Location: Noblesville, IN (Hamilton Town Center)
Address: 13230 Harrell Parkway, Suite 400  Noblesville, IN 46060
Hours: Mon – Sat 6:30am – 9pm; Sun 8am – 8pm
Menu: Paradise Bakery Menu
Type: Cafe and Bakery
Loyalty Program: Taste of Paradise Card (acts as gift card and loyalty card)
Today’s Meal: 1/2 Chicken Walnut Sandwich, Small Paradise Caesar Salad, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Soft Drink
Yesterday’s Meal: 1/2 Turkey Wrap, Small Paradise Pasta Salad, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Soft Drink
Cost: Each meal, about $10

That’s right, I ate at Paradise Bakery two days in a row!  We’ll start with today’s meal.  Their Chicken Walnut sandwich is very good.  I think that my favorite part is the bread.  They use a sweet molasses bread, and it is amazing.  It is the perfect amount of sweetness for this sandwich.  Their chicken salad is very good, although I could use a tad bit more mayo.  However, that is being picky because, like I stated, it is a very good chicken salad sandwich.  The walnuts in the chicken salad also add a nice texture to the sandwich.  The Caesar salad is good.  They toss it up right in front of you, adding ingredients as they go.  Therefore, they are sometimes a little too quick and the Caesar dressing and Parmesan cheese don’t get completely mixed, and you’ll find small clumps every now and then instead of being perfectly blended.  Now for the chocolate chip cookie which is one of my favorites!  It has the perfect amount of a crispy outside while having a chewy inside.  You can definitely tell they are freshly baked.

When I ate at Paradise Bakery yesterday, I got a turkey wrap.  It was a little on the plain side and dry.  It could have used a bit more mayo or pesto or something.  However, it tasted fresh.  The Paradise Pasta salad was good, but wow, they serve way too much!  You can really taste the vinaigrette dressing, so therefore, it is a pasta that is on the strong side.  It’s one of those things that you can only eat so much of.  I got a small bowl of it (and wasn’t able to finish that), and I couldn’t imagine trying to eat a large bowl!  Once again, the chocolate chip cookie was amazing!

McDonald’s in Fishers

Menu: McDonald’s Menu

Today’s Meal: Cheeseburger, Fries, Diet Coke, Iced Mocha
Cost: Under $6.00

Today’s lunch was a cheeseburger and fries.  The one thing that bothered me about the cheeseburger was that the wrapper had something sticky on the outside.  It was like some of their syrup from breakfast had spilled on it or something.  Fortunately, it did not leak through to the sandwich.  The sandwich was good, as were the fries.  The fries came out warm and with the perfect amount of salt.  The Diet Coke was also very good…one of my favorite places to get a fountain Diet Coke.

I decided to give the new Iced Mocha a try today.  The sign said that today was their first day debuting the new McCafe Coffees.  I ordered a Nonfat Iced Mocha.  I was hoping that I would get a drink that had the ice crushed up and blended in with the drink, similar to my favorite, the Starbuck’s Mocha Frappuccino.  However, it was not like that.  It was a drink that had the coffee and syrup mixed together and then ice cubes.  Therefore, to me, it tasted quite syrupy.  Although it looked pretty, with the whipped cream and syrup laced on top, I would not get this drink again.  I will give the regular McCafe Mocha (a warm drink without the ice) a try in the future though.

Today’s Meal – Vegetarian 3-Cheese Nachos, Diet Coke
Cost – Under $8

Loyalty Program – Qdoba Card

For dinner this evening, I got the Vegetarian 3-Cheese nachos and a Diet Coke.  The nachos were loaded with their 3-Cheese Queso, Rice, Mild Salsa, Black Beans, Shredded Cheese, and Lite Sour Cream.  This is a place where you go through the line and they make your meal right in front of you, adding ingredients as you go down the line, similar to Subway.  Today, the meal was very good, and they were very generous with all the toppings.  Everything tasted very fresh as well.  The pico de Gallo (which they also call their ‘Mild’ Salsa) is very good.  It has the perfect blend of tomatoes, onion, and cilantro.  The Queso is a definite winner as well.  This is always one of my favorite places to get nachos.  If you go there for a burrito, expect to leave feeling very full…their burritos are huge!
